Who Is Astrid Stuckelberger

Astrid Stuckelberger is a Swiss scientist specializing in public health, aging, and gerontology. She holds a PhD in public health and a Privat-Docent degree, earned in 2014 from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva. She has devoted nearly thirty years of her career to research, ranging from clinical studies to epidemiology, including science in the service of public policy.

She began her career at the World Health Organization (WHO) in the mental health division before becoming deputy director of the Swiss National Research Program on Aging and later of Switzerland’s first Interdisciplinary Research Center in Gerontology. Between 2009 and 2013, she collaborated once again with the WHO on the International Health Regulations (IHR) and public health emergency management, and established a Summer School on global health and human rights at the university.

In 2014, she was awarded the title of Honorary Professor at the Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in Saint Petersburg, in recognition of her international expertise in geriatric medicine. The author of 12 books, including *Anti-Aging Medicine: Myths and Chances*, and more than 180 scientific publications, policy reports, and documents for the UN, WHO, the European Union, and various governments, she is recognized as an international expert and is frequently invited to speak at numerous forums.

A sought-after speaker, she regularly appears in the media to explain complex public health topics in layman’s terms. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she became a widely heard voice for her critical analysis of global health management—a stance that earned her both broad public support and fierce controversy in scientific and media debates.
